SANTA TRAINS WEEKEND 6 & 7-12-08

Once again, the Society operated a successful Santa Trains weekend on Saturday 6th & 7th December.

On duty were steam loco's Hunslet 'Maid Marian' and Peckett 'Triassic' (brought back into service specifically to haul the Santa trains). Triassic was on the Bala (western) end& Maid Marian on the Llanuwchllyn (eastern) end of the push-me/pull-me train that carried the excited passengers to see Santa at his very own station!

This is a major undertaken for a small Society and involves all sorts of volunteer labour, including:

  • Obtaining & wrapping presents
  • Designing & creating the grotto at Santa's Halt
  • Designing & putting up the decorations at Llanuwchllyn & Glanllyn stations
  • Preparing the carriages & goods wagons used
  • Preparing the steam locos during the weekend
  • Staffing the trains & stations during the weekend
And just as importantly - taking it all apart on the Monday!!

Want to be involved in something really satisfying? Just tell any Society Committee member and they will find you a job.

Sunday 7 December & Maid Marian tops the 11.15 Santa's Halt to Llanuwchllyn train away from Santa's Halt with Triassic tailing. The temperature at this time was -4 degrees
