January & February 2010 Working Weelends
January 2010
The January working weekend was called off at the last minute because it was minus 13c at Llanuwchllyn - makes the ground a bit too hard for even seasoned BLRS volunteers to get the pick or shovel into!!!
Also the water was "off", the euphamism used when the pipes are all frozen solid - so dim dwr, dim panad, dim gwirfoddolwyr!!
(translation at lower down the page)
February 2010
The weekend was a success - 80 sleepers changed and yet more bush's whacked, hopefully stopping the trees and bushes encroaching too far onto the running line and opening up some more views for the travellers to view the amazing scenes through.
Why don't you come along to the next weekend 13-14 March and join in - the work is hard but the sense of achievement is superb!!
Translation: no water, no cuppa's, no volunteers!!! As the meercat with a lisp says - simple! |

MAID MARIAN AGM DAY
Saturday 12 September 2009 was the day of the Maid Marian AGM at Llanuwchllyn hence Maid Marian was the rostered engine.
It was rather misty as she was dragged out of the shed but the weather forecast promised a sunny day. As members of the Maid Marian fund would be at Llanuwchllyn much extra elbow grease was used to make sure she looked at her best.
Driver Julian Roberts, fireman Bob Shell and volunteer Thomas Wilks were responsible for her appearance.
While Thomas was helping us Gary, Thomas’s dad, set about painting the edge of Llanuwchllyn platform 2. What a difference it made.
Maid Marian ran beautifully all day, the promised sun came out and a splendid day was had. Many kind comments from the Maid Marian society came our way as to her appearance. We had around 80 passengers too.

Holy War - During my day on the footplate of Maid Marian Roger, Rob and Chris Scott put Holy War's cab back onto the loco. During her overhaul she has had new springs on all buffers, new tyres, water guages and glasses and a new water tank. Her overhaul nears completion. I cannot wait for her to enter service!
Alice - A start has been made on the 10 year overhaul of Alice. This is expected to last over the Winter.
Maid Marian - Maid Marian is handling all service trains.
Triassic - Triassic is stored, presumably waiting long term overhaul decisions.
Diesels
On the diesel front Merrionedd, Chilmark and Bob Davies ("Trigger") are all serviceable.
Season Start
The start to the seaon has seen "encouraging" passenger numbers.

There is a working weekend Sat and Sun 6 and 7 June. All are welcome!
