Bala Lake Railway Society - Helping to Run Steam Trains

We are a friendly organisation, created, in 1972, to support the operations of the Bala Lake Railway company and we help to run narrow gauge steam trains alongside Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

Bala Lake Railway Society (Cymdeithas Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid) aims to provide both financial and physical support of the railway operations by funding development and by providing labour to operate, service and maintain the trains, the track and the infrastructure of the railway.

Major Investment

Bala Lake Railway Society are constantly raising money for major projects and over the years we (and our individual members) have:
  • Contributed to the major overhauls of steam & diesel locomotives
  • Acquired locomotives & other rail vehicles
  • Paid for sleepers& occassionally coal and lubricants
  • Funded building work at Llanuwchllyn
  • Created & maintaining volunteer workers accommodation
  • Converted the cattle dock into a picnic site
  • Contributed heavily towards the cost of rebuilding Flag/Glanllyn station
  • Found& supplied the railway with specialist equipment

Galas & Santa Trains

Bala Lake Railway Society organise and support special days & gala's to help generate additional business for the railway.

The Society Special Events Group organise and deliver the annual Santa Steam Trains weekend. Volunteers are always welcome to help with our very successful Santa operations - we need people all year round not just in December!
