Working Weekend Dates

The operating season is now in full swing and there are always things needing doing, over and above running the trains. If you thing you can help in any way and for any period we will be pleased to see you. Please Contact Roger or Bobby at the railway to confirm which day you can attend and to arrange accommodation (if needed).

The Society

Bala Lake Railway Society exists to offer support, both practical and financial, to the company operating the Bala Lake Railway. We are actually helping to keep the steam-hauled narrow gauge trains running in the valley beside Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid). If you have a love of railways and Welsh Narrow Gauge in particular then this site is for you. Whether you would like to work on the railway, visit the line or are just surfing the 'net, Llanuwchllin  Express Online has something for you.

The Railway

Bala Lake Railway was constructed in the early 1970's on part of the former Great Western Railway route from Ruabon to Barmouth Junction. Built to a nominal 2ft guage using equipment rescued from dereliction, the Railway operates mainly steam-hauled passenger trains between Llanuwchllyn and Bala (Pont) stations, Gwynedd Wales.

The Volunteers

The railway makes great use of a willing volunteer labour-force who provide skilled staff for every department - from  loco drivers through train guards to grass cutting and litter picking. There is most definitely a job waiting for you - no experience is needed (although experienced peoiple are always made welcome), full training will be provided by the Railway company.

So if you want to use your accumulated skills or want to learn something new and get some of the gorgeous, fresh Welsh air in your lungs contact Roger or Bobby at the railway for more information - or click on the Volunteer Information links provided.
