How Can You Help?

What Can YOU Do?

Bala Lake Railway, in common with nearly all heritage transport operations can only exist with the valuable help given by volunteer workers. The economics of running a 2-foot gauge, narrow gauge, railway in the heart of Wales mean that permanent posts are at a premium.

All jobs are open to people of either sex, young and old alike (subject to some sensible restrictions) - no matter whether you have railway experience or not you will be made welcome.

Learn New Skills

There are many jobs on offer to you at our railway and we hope you will come and help us in whatever capacity you feel most suitable.

At Bala Lake Railway you can learn new skills or expand existing abilities while getting plenty of fresh Welsh air and meeting new people.

Why Volunteer?

Satisfying Pastime

Volunteers are the life-blood of preserved steam railways, and the Bala Lake Railway is no different.

Volunteers supplement the permanent staff, enabling more effective work to be done. A regular volunteer work force allows major tasks to be more readily undertaken including locomotive rebuilds, carriage building & premises development to take place.
